My name is Yimeng Liang, and I am from China. I am an Early Childhood Education student from TRU, and I live near the campus at 775 McGill Apartment. I started the ECE program in 2019; due to COVID-19, I had to halt my ECE program in 2020. I resumed ECE program in September 2024, and I’m currently in my third practicum. I started my practicum on September 13th and I will be staying at the center on Thursdays and Fridays until late November.
My hobby is reading psychology books. During the COVID-19 period, I studied psychology at University of British Columbia in 2021, and I graduated in August 2023. In general, I have a background of expertise in psychology as well as experience as an educator assistant. I have also been involved in a number of courses on working with children with special needs and psychological counseling during my academic years.
I decided to become an early childhood educator because I am passionate about fostering children’s growth in a holistic and meaningful way. For me, education is not just about teaching a set of skills or knowledge, but about creating an environment where children’s voices are heard, their natural curiosity is nurtured, and they can explore the world around them freely. I believe that every child is unique, and as an educator, I want to play a role in understanding their individual needs, supporting their development, and empowering them to take ownership of their learning.
My decision is driven by a deep commitment to child-centered learning, where my role is to observe, listen, and guide children as they explore and solve problems. I am inspired by the potential to help children develop not just cognitively, but also emotionally, socially, and creatively. By integrating play and collaboration into their experiences, I hope to create opportunities for children to develop essential life skills, such as communication, empathy, and independent thinking. Ultimately, I chose this path because I want to contribute to shaping confident, imaginative, and socially capable individuals, and be part of their journey of discovery and growth.
